No ad networks
No ad pixels, no retargeting tags, no banners chasing you around the internet because you looked at a menu once.
The small print · Oamaru waterfront
This is the cookie policy for happydaydreams.com, the website of our restaurant and poker room at 1 Esplanade, Oamaru. It covers what these little files are, the few we keep, and how to switch them off.
First, the boring bit
A cookie is a small text file a website saves in your browser. That's the whole mystery. When you come back, the site reads it and remembers something about the last visit. Some cookies last minutes, some sit around for months, and nearly every website you've ever used keeps a few.
Cookies aren't programs. They can't do anything by themselves, they just sit there holding a line of text. What a site chooses to write in that line is the part worth knowing about, which is what the rest of this page is for.
What we keep
No table of forty tracking codes here. This is the whole list, and it fits between the starters and the mains.
The list changes only if the site changes. If we ever add something, say a way to save your usual poker night, this page gets updated the same week.
Strictly speaking, the banner's answer lives in your browser's local storage rather than a cookie file. Same idea, different drawer, and it belongs on this page anyway.
How the banner works
Land on the homepage for the first time and a banner asks whether cookies are fine with you. Two buttons: Sounds good, or No thanks. Both are real answers.
Your pick is written to your browser as one word, either accept or decline. Next visit the banner reads it, sees you've answered, and stays away.
Delete the stored data for happydaydreams.com in your browser settings. The banner will greet you like a stranger on your next homepage visit and ask again.
The banner knows one word about you and nothing else. It can't see whether you browsed poker nights or went straight to the dining menu.
The don'ts
A short list we're quietly proud of. Small business, small website, small appetite for tracking strangers.
No ad pixels, no retargeting tags, no banners chasing you around the internet because you looked at a menu once.
Nothing here reports your visit to another website. What you read on our poker page stays between you and us.
We don't have a profile of your habits to sell, and frankly we wouldn't know who to sell it to. We sell dinner and seats at card tables.
Worth knowing: table bookings and poker seat enquiries go through our forms and the phone, not through cookies. What happens to your name and email once you send them is the privacy policy's job, and our terms cover the house rules.
Your controls
Every browser lets you see, delete or block cookies. The menus look slightly different depending on yours, but the idea is identical.
Settings, then Privacy, then site data. Search happydaydreams.com, delete what you find, done.
Open your browser's settings and look for Privacy or Security. On a phone it's the same idea, tucked one menu deeper.
You can clear data for happydaydreams.com alone. That resets the banner choice, and that's all there is to reset: a poker seat enquiry isn't stored until you submit it.
You can refuse cookies entirely. This site still loads and reads fine, the banner just can't remember you answered it.
Everything here works the same with or without cookies: dinner bookings, poker seats, the lot. The form only ever sends what you submit.
A palate cleanser
